Co-President, Director of Engineering and Development | Engineered Medical Systems, Inc
For several years, Engineered Medical Systems (Indianapolis, IN) and The MVR Company (Annapolis, MD) have been in discussion about the possibility of locating a medical device assembly operation in Baltimore to support the growing Medtech ecosystem in the State of Maryland. EMS manufactures a line of medical products for their own proprietary sales, as well as for private label and OEM contracts for other medical device companies and distributors. They currently operate facilities in Indianapolis, IN and Penang, Malaysia. EMS will relocate several existing products to the new facility, and is in discussion with several companies from outside of Maryland that are interested in producing in the new location. The facility will be known as The Factory, consistent with the focus of the City Garage at Port Covington to develop new capabilities for Baltimore in the high value manufacturing and products markets.
Concurrent with the opening of this facility, The MVR Company and EMS are partnering to form the LaunchPort Accelerator, which will provide emerging growth Medtech companies the opportunity to establish residency in The Factory alongside an operational medical device manufacturer. A wide array of shared core services and commercial programming will be offered to residents, allowing them to leverage those resources while focusing on gaining regulatory approval, launching first-in-man clinical trials, and gaining commercial deployment.
